Is the appraisal really free?
Yes. Matthew's verbal appraisal at your table is free, and there's no obligation to sell anything.
Do I have to sell?
No. You decide piece by piece. Sell all of it, some of it or none of it.
What if I think it's junk jewelry?
Gather it anyway. Some jewelry that looks like costume turns out to be real, and some that looks valuable isn't. Matthew will tell you which is which.
What should I gather before the visit?
Everything you're curious about, including broken chains, single earrings and pieces you never wear. If you have boxes, papers, receipts or past appraisals, especially for diamonds and watches, set those out too.
What do you buy?
Gold, silver and platinum, diamond jewelry, colored gemstone jewelry and fine timepieces.
How do you decide what to offer?
For precious metals, it comes down to purity and weight. Matthew tests the metal and weighs it in front of you. For diamonds, gemstones and watches, he looks at quality and condition and explains what he sees before making an offer.
How do I get paid?
On the spot. For anything you choose to sell, you're paid before Matthew leaves.
Is a verbal appraisal the same as an insurance appraisal?
No. It's a spoken assessment of each piece and what we would pay for it, not a written appraisal document for insurance or an estate.
Where do you go?
Homes within about 30 miles of San Tan Valley, including San Tan Valley, Queen Creek, Florence, Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa. Homes farther out are welcome by arrangement.
When can you come?
Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Weekends by arrangement.
One to three business days ahead is ideal. Same-day visits may be available.
